Project 799
This project demonstrates Pilgrims' ability to deliver
trainer training and business seminars anywhere in the
world.
Trainer Training and Business Seminars for the
Baku Oil Academy, Azerbaijan.
Introduction
Pilgrims was invited to lead a series of Trainer Training
Workshops and Business Seminars by the British Council.
The workshops and seminars were to be held at the six
Institutes of Higher Education in Baku, Azerbaijan. Despite
Azerbaijan's long running military confrontation with
Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, oil and gas companies from
the United States and Europe, including British Petroleum,
have established operations there. The expansion of the
international business community and the need for economic
re-structuring has led to the need for modern language
training. The oil industry, in particular, is a vital
source of badly needed foreign income. Pilgrims is taking
a leading role in working with the British Council to
introduce new and improved teaching methods and materials
to countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
Brief
Pilgrims was commissioned to design and lead a series
of 4 day intensive workshops and seminars for 50 oil industry
executives and trainers at the Oil Academy in Baku. The
subjects covered included:
 |
 |
| • |
Practical approaches
to communicative language teaching and learning
|
| • |
Extending the trainers'
range of methods for addressing the specific needs
of students in the Oil Academy |
| • |
Practical classroom
management activities, using the minimal resources
to hand and exploiting locally available materials |
| • |
Practical assistance
for executives seeking business in international
markets |
Execution
Pilgrims project managed, designed and delivered the required
workshops and seminars. The project presented Pilgrims
with a number of problems to overcome. Remote and poor,
even in Soviet times, the country's crumbling infrastructure
had been battered by war. None of the Higher Institutes
in Baku had modern teaching aids and therefore all training
materials, including flip charts, photocopiers, pens and
paper, books and manuals had to be packed and transported
to Baku.
The workshops and seminars concentrated on teaching business
and technical English for the oil industry and on the
teaching methodologies involved.

 |
 |
| • |
Ways to teach English
vocabulary |

pronunciation |
