Project 1004
This project demonstrates Pilgrims' ability to run training
courses in communication skills.
A Training Course in Communication Skills for
Transport Professionals from the Ministries of Transport
of 13 PHARE countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
Introduction
In 1998, the PHARE Management Unit decided it needed to
improve the communication skills of senior civil servants.
PTRC, UK transport consultants, and Pilgrims bid for the
contract and were chosen to deliver the training. Following
the success of the first course, and the bidding process
for the second, PTRC and Pilgrims ran a second Communications
Skills for Transport Professionals course.
Brief
Pilgrims was commissioned by PTRC to run an intensive
6-day training course in Communication Skills for 26 senior
civil servants. Pilgrims organised outside speakers and
a study visit on pan-European, regional and local transport
issues. The training took place at Pilgrims Executive
Training Centre in Canterbury, England, in March 1999.
The training was funded by the PHARE programme of the
European Union.
Execution
Before the course, Training Needs Analysis forms were
completed and used to adapt the course to the individuals
concerned.
The training focused on bringing the participants' English
to a level where they could confidently communicate in
English in a wide range of situations. Topics included:
